66th ARTHUR GABOR CLASSIC BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT

 

COACHES' INFORMATION

 

 

Hi Coaches, 

  

Thank you for registering to the Art Gabor Boys Basketball Tournament. We are excited about the weekend we have put together and look forward to hosting your school. Please take a few minutes to read the following information. 

 

GYMNASIUMS 

Games will be played at the following sites: 

  • Chippewa Secondary School - 539 Chippewa St W, North Bay 
  • West Ferris Secondary School - 60 Marshall Park Dr, North Bay
  • St. Joseph-Scollard Hall Catholic Secondary School - 675 O'Brien St, North Bay 

ENRTY FEES and REGISTRATION 

Entry fees must be paid before your first game. Please make cheques payable to:  

Chippewa Secondary School. Receipts will be given at the tournament. The cost is $475.00 per team.  

 

Please drop off your cheque at Chippewa Secondary School or to the gym supervisor at West Ferris and Scollard Hall before playing your first game.

  

GAME RULES 

We will be playing with the OFSAA adopted FIBA Rules with a 24 second shot-clock. 

 

TOURNAMENT ALL-STARS and MVP 

We will be selecting a 5-player tournament all-star team and an MVP for both the Junior and Senior division. 

 

FORMAT and DIVISIONS 

There are 12 teams in the Senior division and 13 teams in the Junior division.  There are four pools of three teams in Senior, and three pools of three and one pool of four in Junior.

 

For all pools (except Pool H) - after pool play on Friday, the top two finishers in each pool will be placed in the Championship bracket for playoffs on Saturday. The third-place finisher from each pool will be placed in the Consolation bracket. 

 

 

For Pool H (the pool with four teams). Each team will play two games on Friday (like all the other pools). Pool H will be an unbalanced schedule. The top two teams in Pool H will move to the Championship playoff on Saturday. The bottom two teams will move to the Consolation playoff on Saturday. The third-place team will move to the Consolation Semi Final. The fourth-place team will move to the Consolation Placement Game.

 

TIE BREAKING PROCEDURE FOR POOLS A-G

 

Pool rankings will be determined by win - loss record. 

 

If there is a 3-way tie within a pool, rankings will be determined by the following: 

  1. Point spread, capped at +20 per game (the largest point spread will be ranked higher).  
  2. If still a 3-way tie, then total points against will be used - the team with the least number of points against will be ranked higher.  
  3. If still a 3-way tie, then rankings will be determined by coin toss.  
  4. If two teams are tied after (1) and (2), then head-to-head result will determine the higher finisher. 

RANKING AND TIE BREAKING PROCEDURE FOR POOL H

  1. Win - loss record.
  2. Head-to-head result (if applicable).
  3. Point spread, capped at +20 per game (the largest point spread will be ranked higher).  
  4. If teams are still tied after Step 3, total points against will be used – the team with the fewest points allowed ranks higher
  5. If still tied, coin toss

PRACTICE BALLS 

Please bring your own warm-up/practice balls. 

   

DOOR ADMISSION 

There is no door admission this year.
